Porous materials with two populations of voids under internal pressure: II. Growth and coalescence of voids
This study is devoted to the mechanical behavior of polycrystalline materials with two populations of voids, small spherical voids located inside the grains and larger spheroidal voids located at the grain boundaries. In part I of the work, instantaneous effective stress-strain relations were derived for fixed microstructure. In this second part, the evolution of the microstructure is addressed...
متن کاملCritical behavior of colloid-polymer mixtures in random porous media.
We show that the critical behavior of a colloid-polymer mixture inside a random porous matrix of quenched hard spheres belongs to the universality class of the random-field Ising model. We also demonstrate that random-field effects in colloid-polymer mixtures are surprisingly strong. This makes these systems attractive candidates to study random-field behavior experimentally.
متن کاملDuctile damage of porous materials with two populations of voids
This study is devoted to the modelling of ductile damage in uranium dioxide. This polycrystalline material contains two populations of voids of well separated size. The problem addressed here is the prediction of the effective flow surface of a Gurson material containing randomly oriented oblate voids. The case of spherical voids is considered first and the variational approach of Gurson is gen...
متن کاملNumerical evolution of general relativistic voids.
In this paper, we study the evolution of a relativistic, superhorizon-sized void embedded in a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe. We numerically solve the spherically symmetric general relativistic equations in comoving, synchronous coordinates. Initially, the fluid inside the void is taken to be homogeneous and nonexpanding. In a radiation-dominated universe, we find that radiation diffuses ...
متن کاملSolute Transport in Porous Media. Media with Capillaries as Voids
We study solute transport in porous media with periodic microstructures consisting of interconnected thin channels. We discuss a local physical mechanism that occurs at the intersections of channels and promotes mixing of the solute with the solvent (i.e., the host liquid). We identify the parameter regime, where this mechanism is the dominant cause of dispersion, and obtain the effective or ma...
